After starting this project a lot of things had to be taken into consideration and made, the biggest challenge of everything so far was blueprinting all of the main mechanics and the overall level design.
This project was made originally for two main purposes, the first of which was to improve my blueprinting skills through tutoring and trail and error considering the main criticism of companies I applied for it was down to my visual scripting ability.
Secondly to improve my level design and to approach a new form of design, 3rd person horror games.
So far the blueprints are coming along fantastic, this is a short list and isn't all of the mechanics added so far but this gives you an idea on progress:
Ladders
Inventory
Weapons - Pistols, shotguns, grenade launcher
Mixing of herbs
Health system
Zombie A.I and sight based aggro
Save system
Shared storage box
Sprint and camera zoom
Doors utilising keys and lock-picks
Music ques
As said above this is just a short list of the current mechanics, there's still a lot more to come!
In terms of the level design I've had to re-make the current design roughly 7-8 times so far and now I'm finally on an idea I feel is a brilliant match for this level.
The story for the level, the looping areas, monsters, boss fights and more are all being taken into consideration while making this level, needless to say that for me personally its a HUGE project to take on.
Overall, this should make me a stronger designer in absolutely all aspects and fully intend on it been a fully fleshed out project rather than a proof of concept, with having some 3D modellers also assisting to make it visually better too.
Below is a small tease of whats to come, progress has been slow due to real life issues and I'm taking a small break from level design until the 29th of June, afterwards its full steam ahead for the Resident Evil 3 project!
Thank you for reading.
